White Chocolate Mousse with Blueberry-Lemon Jam and Brandy-snap Cookies
Day 13 brings us blueberries!
Elgin County is thriving with blueberry farms. Whether you would like to pick your own, or let someone else to the chore, nothing beats the taste of these fresh, juicy, sweet & dark gems.
I picked pounds upon pounds of berries this summer. Blueberry & Lemon jam was well received, and even more so in Elgin Harvest's 'Pop Tarts'. Picking berries can be time consuming, but each time I ventured down the rows I met new and friendly people. Some would give tips on where the best berries were, and some were so eager to talk food and pastry that the time in the bushes flew by. Just make sure you bring a head covering and plenty of fluids to drink- it gets hot out there!
Even now, with the winds blowing and threats of a snow storm (I am hoping for a white Christmas), the taste of summer is readily available using frozen berries. As I write this I think about sipping a glass of icy cold blueberry lemonade under the patio umbrella. My fingers may have been stained, but my mouth was happy.
Blueberries can be found at these locations (seasonally):
